CANSKATE
Pre-Canskate to Canskate Level 5/6CanSkate is Skate Canada’s official learn-to-skate program, recognized as the top choice for developing essential skating skills across all ice sports. It’s an excellent program for skaters of all ages and abilities, focusing on the ABCs of skating: Agility, Balance, and Control. Skaters participate without parent assistance on the ice and are grouped by skill level to ensure tailored instruction and effective skill development. All skaters will receive a CanSkate Progress Report in December (which we ask that they return in January) and again in March at the end of season, which outlines the various skills they have achieved. We currently offer CanSkate sessions on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
All participants in our CanSkate programs MUST wear CSA approved hockey helmets.
Once they have passed CanSkate Stage 5, participants who want to continue progressing in figure skates may be ready to move up to our Junior STAR sessions at the coaches discretion.

JUNIOR STAR
Canskate Level 6 (figure skates) & STAR Levels 1-3Skaters currently in Canskate Stage 6 who want to continue progressing in figure skates may be asked to register for these sessions at coaches discretion so they are grouped with our STAR 1-3 figure skaters. Senior CanSkaters on this session will continue to develop skills in the three fundamental Canskate areas: Agility, Balance, and Control. They will learn elements including spirals, one-foot spins, and jumps. For skaters in CanSkate Stage 6 and above, helmets are optional at the parent discretion. We do recommend using a padded ice halo (or a "crasche") as head protection when transitioning out of a helmet.
STARSkate levels 1-3 are based on Skate Canada's STAR 1-5 program, the official "learn to figure skate" curriculum. The STAR program emphasizes Skills, Tests, Achievement, and Recognition, helping skaters pursue their figure skating goals. Our STAR coaches concentrate on developing Skating Skills, Free Skate, Dance, and Artistic elements.
Private coaching is optional for CanSkaters in Stage 6. Private coaching is recommended starting at STAR 1, during OPEN STAR sessions on Thursdays. Skaters aiming to compete at STAR 2 or higher must arrange for private coaching and register for our Thursday sessions. Junior STAR skaters must register for at least one of our group lesson sessions on Tuesdays or Saturdays to be allowed to register for Thursday sessions. Thursday session registration must be discussed with your Belmont coach to determine the best session to register for. All Junior, Senior, and Open STAR sessions include instructor led 45 minute off-ice conditioning.
After passing two STAR 3 assessments, skaters should consult with their coach about moving to Senior STAR sessions mid-season or the following season.

SENIOR STAR
STAR Levels 4+ to GOLDOur Senior STAR program is based on Skate Canada's STAR 1-5, STAR 6 to GOLD, and Competitive programs which is the premier figure skating curriculum in Canada. It’s designed for athletes aspiring to advance in the sport, offering instruction in Skating Skills, Ice Dance, Free Skate, and Artistic disciplines by Skate Canada NCCP coaches.
At this level, all skaters are required to have a private coach to further refine their skills. Together, they’ll focus on improving both on-ice techniques and off-ice abilities like goal setting, focus, time management, and sportsmanship, helping skaters continue to grow and enjoy their skating journey.
For skaters at this stage, we currently offer Senior STAR sessions on Tuesdays and Saturdays as well as OPEN STAR sessions on Thursdays. All Junior, Senior, and Open STAR sessions include instructor led 45 minute off-ice conditioning.

ADULT FIGURE SKATING & ADULT/TEEN LEARN TO SKATE
Our ADULT/TEEN LEARN TO SKATE program is geared towards newer skaters aged 12 and up, with no prior experience needed. Skaters are grouped by skill level and goals, allowing them to progress at their own pace. Sessions include structured group lessons and free time. Participants must provide their own skates and a CSA-approved hockey helmet.
Our ADULT FIGURE SKATING program is for experienced skaters at Adult Bronze level or higher who want to enhance their skills, dances, spins, and jumps in a judgement free and fun environment. This program offers a combination of group lessons and free time, as well as options to work with a private coach (for recreational purposes or for those with competitive goals in mind). Formal assessments and testing can also be arranged with our coaches.
We currently offer this program on Saturdays.
If you are unsure what level you or your skater should be registered in, please reach out to the club or one of our coaches!
